Mantle of the Expert Summer School – Antwerp

Description

GROUP 1: drama as a learning medium in primary school - led by Tim Taylor
GROUP 2: dramatic inquiry in art education - led by Bob Selderslaghs

On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 August 2021, the Royal Conservatoire of the AP University College Antwerp and the International Art campus deSingel will organize a two-day Summer Session for two groups of participants:

1. for primary school teachers and professional bachelor students in primary education - theme: how can drama be used as a learning medium in your classroom?
2. for drama teachers in art education - theme: how can Mantle of the Expert enrich the artistic process and product of your students?

A maximum of 20 participants per group will be introduced to the various aspects and possible applications of Mantle of the Expert (MoE), an approach that uses drama and research to create imaginary contexts for learning. In this approach, teachers work with their students to create fictional settings that are used to develop knowledge, skills and insights in different areas of learning. The class group is placed at the centre of the learning process.

The language conducted during this Summer Session is English for group 1 and requires no experience with drama. Tim Taylor, the ambassador of MoE in the United Kingdom, provides a fascinating programme, in which there is room to learn, explore and reflect.

The language conducted during this Summer Session is Dutch for group 2 and requires some experience with drama. Bob Selderslaghs, the ambassador of MoE in Flanders, provides a fascinating programme, in which there is room to learn, explore and reflect.

This Summer Session MoE#5 is part of the PhD research project 'MoE 2.0 - from dramatic inquiry toward an artistic result in art education' conducted by Bob Selderslaghs at the Royal Conservatoire and the University of Antwerp. More info about the approach, the teachers & Tim’s publication "A Beginner’s Guide to use Mantle of the Expert" (Singular Publishing, 2016) can be found at www.mantleoftheexpert.com
