- Dates: Saturday and Sunday of the conference (October 7th and 8th, 2023).
- Presenters: Richard Kieran, Lisa Hinton, and Tim Taylor.
- Presenter Backgrounds:
- Richard and Lisa work at Woodrow First School in Redditch, where they use Mantle of the Expert from Nursery to Year 4.
- Tim is an international teacher and coach in Mantle of the Expert, and author of ‘A Beginner’s Guide to Mantle of the Expert’ [2016] and ‘Try This… Unlocking Learning with Imagination’ [2023].
Workshop Content:
- The workshops will focus on the use of conventions of dramatic action in Mantle of the Expert.
- They will explore in detail a Mantle of the Expert context based on Lewis Carroll's poem, Jabberwocky, which was used at Woodrow School.
- Attendees will learn how these conventions were incorporated into the context and how they were used to develop learning.
- Richard and Lisa will share planning materials and photographs of student work.
- Practical aspects of running Mantle of the Expert in a mainstream school will be discussed, including assessment, timetables, planning, and behaviour management.
Workshop Style:
- The workshops will be both discussion-based and practical/exploratory.
- Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in demonstrations on how to use the conventions to create engaging and meaningful sequences of learning.
