HMI Survey 2010: Creative approaches that raise standards

This attachement is the 2010 HMI Survey on Curriculum used in the most successful schools inspected by ofsted – “Curriculum design, personalisation and raising standards” Evidence from ofsted, Robin Hammerton HMI, National Adviser – Personalisation

Robin Hammerton HMI (author and leader of the team of Her Majesties Inspectorate for Schools in England and Wales) outlines the findings of the  impact survey of primary schools in the past 3 years with a focus on  finding out how the most successful schools teach the curriculum.
Why is this so important?
The survey’s thesis, drawn from detailed evidence gathered, by HMI inspections and Ofsted, is supportive of school leaders and policy makers in the process of innovation. This powerful set of slides will send shock waves through the system and is the death knell for the high stakes ‘results’ driven brigade who can now be challenged on their own territory. On this evidence alone they will loose the ‘moral high ground’ as the skilfully sequenced set of slides will testify.
And not before time.
It is worth noting that Bealings School was inspected by HMI Hammerton and the evidence from the inspection was included in detail in the survey. The key recommendations of the survey were a one to one match of how Bealings teaches its curriculum through Mantle of the Expert.
Question:
What are the most successful schools doing currently?
Answer:
Adapting directives not adhering slavishly, having a healthy disregard for SAT’s and all the paraphernalia of ‘preparing the children’.
