Drama NZ is offering two $500 scholarships to support teachers to attend their conference this year. One scholarship is for a beginning teacher, the other is for a teacher from a rural school.
Te Kore – Drama NZ’s national conference for 2013 will be held at Waikato University 26-28 April. The conference suits primary, intermediate and secondary teachers and a number of presentations and workshops will be specifically devoted to Mantle of the Expert.
This summer mantle of the expert.com in partnership with the Qattan Foundation will organising a teacher exchange programme for a group of Palestine teachers with the aim of establishing new practices in mantle of the expert. Working alongside teacher-coaches, trained by Dr Dorothy Heathcote and Luke Abbott, each teacher will meet a teacher-coach in Palestine during April. They will team-teach for a time in their own classrooms and then return in June for a weeklong placement in a partnership school in the UK.
Luke gives the background to the development of mantle of the expert since 2002 as a powerful curriculum approach and his view of the future of education created, not by the establishment, but by teachers innovating from the ‘underground’.
This keynote was recorded in preparation for the first international mantle of the expert conference at Waikato University, Hamilton New Zealand, August 27-30, 2009.
